About this place
At lunch, Café Garage pairs bread and plenty of vegetables with toppings such as oil-marinated oysters, jamón serrano, prawns and salmon. Part of the pleasure is seeing the combinations and wondering which one to try. One diner reported that an open sandwich topped with oysters, prawns and cured ham came with a generous salad and made for a satisfying meal. Another enjoyed oil-marinated oysters, cured ham, prawns and smoked salmon, and also remembered the salad dressing. Toppings may vary by season, so check with the restaurant if you have a particular favourite in mind.
There is also an aurora sandwich, with salmon and prawns dressed in a herb mayonnaise sauce. Choose an open sandwich to savour the toppings, or a sandwich in which the sauce brings the filling together; the choice depends on your appetite and mood.
Choosing a coffee to go with your meal is another part of the experience. One visitor ordered Cleopatra, describing its acidity and bitterness as well balanced; another tried Toraja from Indonesia. A diner also noted the wide selection of beans and said the staff offered recommendations based on personal preference. If you are unsure, you could ask for advice by describing the flavours you like.
For something sweet, try the traditional, firm-textured custard pudding served with ice cream. The chiffon cake is baked at the café each week and made with soy milk and rice oil; it, too, comes with ice cream. Visitors have described both desserts as gently sweet, with the coffee’s aroma coming through as well. They make a pleasant pairing with a post-meal cup.
On Fridays, the café is open from 10 to 18; on Saturdays, from 10 to 23; and on Sundays, from 10 to 18. Saturday service runs into the evening, making the café an option not only for a lunchtime sandwich but also for coffee or a light bite later in the day.
